The woman behind of the nation’s favourite paint brands,\u00a0Annie Sloan <\/a>takes us through a step-by-step guide to updating and upcycling a mid-century side table using her famous chalk furniture paint.<\/p>\n

Step 1<\/h3>\n

“I chose Chalk Paint in Provence, a bright, clean modern colour, for the main part of the table and used my widest flat brush, made of a high quality synthetic smooth material to help make the paint run smoothly. It’s advisable to add some water to the paint and mix well,” says Annie.<\/p>

Charge the brush well with the paint and apply the paint working it in all directions to spread the paint evenly. Then work it straight up and down to get an even coat without brush marks.<\/p>\n

“For the edges I chose Chalk Paint in Arles and I used the smaller of the two flat brushes for this wiping the paint gently along the strip,” Annie explains. Don’t use too much paint so the paint does not slide onto the table top.<\/p>

“Here I applied my Chalk Paint Lacquer in Gloss on the furniture, using the lacquer thinly and using long straight lines and brushing a couple of times to get a good flat gloss finish. Let it dry overnight so it’s really set hard and firm.”<\/p>\n
