Energy experts at Uswitch have revealed that Brits are expected to have their Christmas decorations up for a staggering 38 days this year – costing almost \u00a36.5 million in energy bills for outdoor Christmas lights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amongst rising energy prices, 62% of us will put up our Christmas lights this year, although one in 10 of us will be reducing how many lights they use due to high energy bills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ben Gallizzi, energy expert at Uswitch<\/a> explains: “Switching to LED lights is a simple way to keep festive while cutting costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “LED lights typically use 80% less energy than halogen lights and last much longer.<\/p> “For example, powering a string of 100 LED fairy lights will cost 2p for eight hours of use, totally at around \u00a33.04 over the festive season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Over one million households will decorate their homes with snow machines, inflatables and high wattage signs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n “The 800,000 households planning to illuminate their gardens with high-wattage outdoor signs could be adding \u00a38.12 to energy bills if used for eight hours a day for 38 days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n “That works out to be a collective \u00a36,496,000 spent on powering festive outdoor signage this Christmas.<\/p> “To save money and prevent energy wastage, use timers to turn your decorations on and off.
