Image credit: BC Designs<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-add-a-touch-of-retro-luxe\">Add a touch of retro luxe<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Want your 70s revival with a little extra shimmer? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Retro luxe details like smoked mirrors, chrome coffee tables and glossy sideboards dial up the drama while keeping things effortlessly cool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re seeing a move towards glamorous 70s touches, smoked mirrors, brass detailing and velvet upholstery, which bring sophistication to contemporary homes,\u201d explains Kunal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it is important to use the touches sparingly as accents within a modern scheme so they hint at retro influences while keeping the overall look current.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.goodhomesmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/70s-trend-houzz-living-room-orange-velvet-sofa-2018.jpg\" alt=\"70s trend in the living room with an orange velvet sofa at Houzz of 2018\" class=\"wp-image-3583 ufurnish-shoppable-image\" style=\"width:794px;height:auto\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Smoked glass gives a nod to the retro trend. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-introduce-curved-forms\">Introduce curved forms<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Curved forms are central to 70s design, softening spaces with their sculptural silhouettes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From arched doorways to tub chairs and rounded sofas, these shapes bring a sense of flow, comfort and retro sophistication<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhether through a statement sofa, a rounded coffee table or a curvy accent chair, these shapes feel inviting and soften a space,\u201d advises Adel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey bring in that 70s spirit but in a way that feels contemporary.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hannah agrees that introducing curvy silhouettes is a great way to nod to the trend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;70s interiors rarely involved sharp edges and harsh lines, things were a lot softer, so this is something to be considered,&#8221; she explains. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The trick is not to overwhelm your space, you don\u2019t want to add retro shapes anywhere you can. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This can be overkill. Image credit: Barker &amp; Stonehouse<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-layer-your-lighting\">Layer your lighting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As well as opting for 70s style shapes, your lighting needs to feel layered to create the right ambience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;70s interiors isn\u2019t just a look, it is a feeling, and the best way to achieve that is lighting,&#8221; explains Hannah. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Lighting can play a really important role when it comes to interiors, making or breaking the atmosphere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The 70s were low-lit and cosy, lighting was warm, making the space feel both homely and inviting.
