As part of the Home Leaks initiative, Affinity Water is launching a new leak visit service where customers can get small leaks fixed for free. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spotting leaks before they start<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

New data reveals that over a third of Brits are unaware of how to identify if there is a leak in their home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This information has inspired Affinity Water to team up with the Bowen’s to promote the Look and Listen Test. <\/p>

This is a straightforward method to detect leaks and take immediate action to fix them before they get more serious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the new scheme, customers will be able to upload a video of their link to the Affinity Water website and their team of expert plumbers will be able to assess it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wasting water (and money!)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Brits could be wasting as much as \u00a3697 million on water bills each year from unidentified leaks. <\/p>

Not only that, but they could also be wasting 900 million litres of clean drinking water every day!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

High water pressure is usually the culprit, but a recent survey from Affinity showed that 57% of Brits don’t know how to check their water pressure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Home Leaks initiative<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

First introduced last year, this was created to help occupiers save on wasted money and help the environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A big element is the ‘Look and Listen’ test; this is a quick and easy method to detect if there is a link in your home. <\/p>

This involves guiding individuals on what to look and listen for, from looking at visible pipes and fixtures to listening for drips, running water and toilet leaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Homeowners who fix their leaks themselves will save significantly on repair costs, so it is vitally important to have the knowledge and confidence to tackle small leaks before they become bigger problems!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5 ways to help water leak detection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  1. Look at your water meter
    <\/strong>Turn off all water-using appliances and fixtures and then look at your water meter. If it’s still moving, you almost certainly have a leak somewhere.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Listen for drips<\/strong>
    Turn off the TV or radio and listen for dripping faucets, running toilets or the sound of water when no fixtures are being used.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Look at your visible pipes and fixtures
    <\/strong>Regularly look underneath your sinks, around toilets and behind appliances for signs of moisture, rust or water stains. These can indicate a leak!<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Check your water bill
    <\/strong>Keep an eye on your bills. If you notice an unexpected increase in water costs, check your usage compared to previous months. If a spike has occurred this could be due to a leak.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Use a leaky loo strip
    <\/strong>Affinity water provide these free to help detect a toilet leak. After the last flush, dry the back of the pan and place the strip above the overflow hole. Check in the morning (provided the toilet hasn’t been used overnight), if it’s altered you have a leak.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
