\u201cRooms that are organised evoke feelings of calm, which is why clever and efficient storage in a child\u2019s room is so critical,\u201d explains Rachal Hutcheson, national retail manager, Sharps<\/a>.<\/p> Plus when kids have a particular area for their things, it helps to incorporate a sense of responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The problem is, putting together a well-designed bedroom for little ones comes with a number of challenges, starting with the size.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cKids rooms are usually smaller, which means space for designing and organising is very limited,\u201d explains architect and interior designer, Priyanshi\u00a0Jain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Changing needs is another consideration.<\/p> \u201cAs kids grow, their needs for clothes, toys, stationery and other items also change,\u201d explains Priyanshi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis makes it important to have a storage solution that is flexible and easy to renovate from time to time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Thankfully, there are some ways to introduce stylish yet super flexible storage<\/a> into your child\u2019s bedroom, to tidy the toys and banish painful steps on the Lego for good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One basic storage hack is sourcing a higher bed (that your child can still climb on) but that has space for storage underneath.<\/p> \u201cYou can then have some curtains made to cover this space underneath,\u201d advises Kelly Collins, interior designer and head of creative at Swyft<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNot only does this make more storage but it also adds some colour into the room and makes a feature of the bed. A striped fabric is perfect for this.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Children\u2019s bedrooms need to serve a whole plethora of purposes so when considering the design, it\u2019s important to look for pieces that are multifunctional and can adapt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhen choosing storage for kids’ bedrooms, it is important to make sure the storage is multi-use to help save space,\u201d explains Kelly.<\/p> \u201cFor example, choosing an ottoman which your kids can sit on that also has storage underneath.\u00a0Our Swyft Storage 03 Ottoman<\/a>\u00a0is perfect for this. It’s also important to find something with a\u00a0design that will age with the child to ensure longevity.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n For tricky spaces, Rachal recommends a mid-sleeper or cabin bed as a smart\u00a0small space idea. Some come with a desk, storage and bed built in, so you can zone the room with a study station, storage place, chill-out zone and sleeping area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIntegrated furniture such as desks, beds and shelving are the most obvious ways to create dedicated areas that blend in seamlessly with the room, whilst providing functional spaces to store things away,\u201d she explains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cCabin beds are classic pieces that never fail to delight children of most ages, with bases made up of deep drawers, and cupboards and overhead shelves are also ideal for keeping the floor tidy and reserved only for playing.<\/p> \u201cIf you have window space in the room, consider a bay window to add extra seating with storage for any excess toys and books.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Inject vibrancy into the room by adding pops of colour into practical storage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIf you want to add a unique touch of personality to your kids room, unexpected colour combinations like mustard and sage, olive and lilac or poppy and ocean look oh-so-cool next to one another and give off fresh, playful, energising vibes,” says\u00a0Becca Stern, creative director and co-founder of Mustard Made<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When designing a child\u2019s bedroom, it is important to balance the space by leaving enough open floor space for play and movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cA pull-out desk is a great option where space is short, or when more room is needed for playing on the floor,\u201d explains Kate Palmer, creative director, The Painted Furniture Company<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cChildren also love the \u2018magic\u2019 when the desk is hidden away or \u2018disappears\u2019. Having a dedicated desk also encourages their creativity, and when filled with fun pens and art supplies, will also hopefully help with getting homework completed.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Priyanshi suggests collecting some interesting tree branches and securing them to the wall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBuild a book shelf around them to make it look unique,\u201d she adds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She also suggests repurposing an old suitcase as a table-come-storage compartment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cPlace it near the bed and keep a lamp, books on it, and other important stuff inside it to utilise any unused space,\u201d Priyanshi says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Finally, she suggests upcycling painted tin cans as storage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cCollect tin cans of various sizes and paint them with your favourite colours. Stick them to the walls to create a vibrant look to store toys, pens and other items,\u201d Priyanshi adds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When planning your little one\u2019s bedroom, it\u2019s important to factor in other uses of the bedroom space, such as entertaining their friends and hosting sleepovers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIf your child loves a sleepover and you\u2019re sick of getting the air bed out every weekend, you could opt for a trundle bed which has a pull out bed underneath,\u201d suggests Jonathan Warren, bed specialist and director at Time4Sleep<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cEveryone sleeps well and the space is much easier to tidy away.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Never overlook the value of under-bed drawers that double up as pull-out play areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis novel storage solution opens up the often-overlooked space underneath your child’s bed by giving them a designated spot for playing with their toys and games,\u201d explains Darren Logue, director at Sliding Robes Direct<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis way, kids can have their favourite items close to hand yet neatly out of sight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"children's](\"https:\/\/www.goodhomesmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/dunelm_1252477.jpg\")
