Interior design trends in 2023 shout optimism. Think bold colours and individualism. It’s a time to embrace all the things that bring you joy, especially those that have been skillfully handcrafted.<\/p>\n

But joyfulness requires balance. A space that embodies comfort, where you can retreat and relax, is vital for our mental health. So comfortcore and shades of ‘wellness blue’ are also key for 2023. It’s a mixed bag of trends with an important common denominator \u2013 prioritising feeling good.<\/p>\n

1. Dopamine decor<\/h2>\n

Dopamine decor<\/span><\/a>\u00a0is a trend that started in 2022 and has been gaining pace ever since. It’s a trend that eschews white and beige and adds a healthy dose of colour. Like Carpetright (pictured below), match your floors to your\u00a0<\/span>kitchen island<\/span><\/a>, or like YesColours (pictured above) and paint your walls a vibrant pink. To start bringing colour into your home gently, you could always play with bold accessories first.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Craftsmanship<\/h2>\n

Mass-produced is out. For 2023, we’re looking at items made with care and love and from natural materials. The pandemic gave many people a chance to try their hand at a craft, be it knitting, pottery or woodwork, and it’s given us a welcome new-found appreciation of the craftsman’s skill. The lovely Isle of Wight-based luxury interiors brand <\/span>XV Stripes<\/span><\/a>\u00a0has revealed its Ltd Edition range – pre-loved furniture restored by skilled craftspeople using XV Stripes’ coastal-inspired fabrics.<\/span><\/p>

3. Comfortcore<\/h2>\n

While we’ve come out of hibernating and are embracing exploration again, we still haven’t shaken the need to retreat home and relax. Creating a cosy, inviting environment in your home with texture in your furnishings and warm tones on the walls will be a key interior design trend in 2023. <\/span>Wayfair<\/span><\/a> has billed the trend as ‘curved cocoon’. ‘Many are moving away from minimalism, straight lines and angular styles and instead diving deep into cocooning furniture and finishes,’ said a spokesperson. ‘Rounded forms, tantalising textures, and whisper-soft tones envelop us in plush comfort.’<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Heritage chic<\/h2>\n

Wooden panelling<\/a> is still seeing a steady uptick in popularity, a key component in timeless heritage style. Sales have also risen in herringbone parquet flooring. A stylish way of adding a touch of heritage chic to your home is to add detailed wallpaper (pictured below) or gold accents. Try antique brass in light fittings and accessories to add warmth to your room.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0Wellness blue<\/h2>\n

As well as all the bright paints, wallpapers, and objets d’art seen in the dopamine decor trend, we also see the calmest shades of blue. Aptly named ‘wellness blue’, we’ll continue to see awareness and uptake in self-care. Think of soft pastel blues and turquoise ocean hues to bring a sense of tranquility to your home.<\/p>\n
